Marque – Canberra’s boutique Melbourne Cup event Albert Hall, Canberra

Barlens were very excited to be part of this boutique event hosting it’s first year at The Albert Hall on Commonwealth Avenue. One of Canberra’s oldest venue’s, The Albert Hall came up an absolute treat as Barlens styled the event using both indoor and outdoor spaces. The event was hosted by a number of corporate partners and totaled 800 guests. The layout allowed for two bar, cocktail rounds, couch and break-out areas along with an extended stage and dance area. It was warm in the sun but that didn’t stop the fun – we look forward to an even bigger event for November 2015.

“Was a great day! Loved the venue”, Jill Slaven

National Multicultural Festival

Canberra City

Hosted every year in Garema Place and the surrounding town centre, the National Multicultural Festival is one of Barlens biggest projects of the year hosting 250,000 people over 3 days. The build for the festival must go up quickly and come down even quicker as the city centre continues to buzz. The build involves several large Hoecker Pavillions, tables, seating and shade for the large crowds, a large stage plus over 100 smaller 4m and 8m marquees.

The Gold Symposium Exhibition

Hosted in May every year, The Symposium is the authentic mining conference experience hosted in far north-western NSW amongst the desert. Barlens first set up for the Gold Symposium was in 2008. The main marquee was a 20x60m, fully floored, carpeted and decorated structure set for a sit down of 600 people in the middle of the desert in Silverton (just outside of Broken Hill). The exhibition contingent is a 15x55m structure, fully floored and weighted down the main street of Broken Hill. This structure houses 53 exhibition booths every year for the Mining Symposium.

Temporary Base Camp for The Victorian DES after Black Saturday Bushfires

In 2009 Barlens responded to the Black Saturday bush fires to build a temporary base camp for the Victorian DES and emergency accommodation to sleep 500 people. Upon receiving the first phone call at 10.45pm on the 7th of February, Barlens had all trucks loaded by 2am and the teams were on the road. At 9.30am on Sunday morning, the Barlens team had built a 20x60m marquee – sleeping 500, a 10x33m Mess hall and an area for logistics within a 10x9m marquee. Barlens response to Black Saturday was a tribute to the dedication and commitment of our staff as we saw magic made, traveling 250kms and 11 hours from first phone call to completion. The supporting image is an excerpt from the newspaper showing the configuration of the structures.

SnowyHydro Southcare Annual events

Central Canberra

SnowyHydro Southcare is one of Canberra’s most loved local charities. The SnowyHydro Southcare organization work tirelessly to host what has been a successful run of events held in December of each year. Barlens are very proud to support the organization and very proud of the work we pull together to create a unique and stylish venue to host the Saturday evening Gala Ball and Sunday lunchtime sessions. The build consists of a 25 x 50m floored marquee structure with an additional floored catering marquee of 10 x 18mand outdoor fenced courtyard. All marquee lighting and furniture is carefully selected to create the perfect look for these events. Facilitation and coordination of logistics for the three consecutive events included dismantle and build of internal walls and infill for each event.
